Monday Afternoon Toronto Maple Leafs: Robertson + News + Standings + Trades
The Toronto Maple Leafs are hosting the New York Rangers tonight at the Air Canada Centre.
Both of these teams come into this one red-hot with the Toronto Maple Leafs winning eight of their last 10 and the New York Rangers winning nine of their last 10.
These two have split the first two games of the season series. With both of these teams ranking in the top six in the NHL in goals per game over the last 10 games, I think we are going to have another fun game to watch tonight.
Looking deeper into these last 10, the Rangers are allowing the third most shots, third most scoring chances, and seventh-most high-danger chances per game. The Maple Leafs have a lot of games in their last 10 games against the bottom tier that are skewing their defensive chances against numbers, but the goaltending has been shaky again recently as the Maple Leafs have allowed three or more goals in four of their last five.
Toronto Maple Leafs Games Flying Over
The Maple Leafs are 6-3-1 to the over in their last 10 and have gone over in four of their last five games. The Rangers have been playing more toward the under recently, but they are still averaging 3.78 goals per game over their last 10 and should have some fun going against a Maple Leafs defense group that is calling Ilya Lybushkin an upgrade.
The Maple Leafs have already confirmed that Ilya Samsonov will be in the net, although he has somewhat turned it around recently, he still has a 3.02 goals-against-average in February and a career goals-against-average of 3.56 against the Rangers.
The Rangers are expected to start Igor Shesterkin who has been on fire recently only giving up four goals in his last five games, but something has to give. I mean the guy has seen 153 shots in the last two weeks. The Maple Leafs have also had his number in 2023, scoring 3.6 goals per game across all three games in 2023.
The combination of the Rangers giving up a ton of offensive chances and the Maple Leafs defensive group struggling to stay a float leads me to believe this game is going over..
Game Total Over 6.5 (+100) DraftKings
Please Stay Home Morgan Reilly
Following the Maple Leafs last games against the Coyotes, it was announced that Mark Giordano would be going to the injured reserve. It was also announced that the Maple Leafs acquired Ilya Lybushkin from the Anaheim Ducks.
It is unclear if Lybushkin will play on Saturday as he and Timothy Liljegren were absent from practice yesterday. If Lybushkin does not slot in beside Reilly that could mean Reilly plays alongside Maxime Lajoie who he practiced beside yesterday.
This may be wishful thinking, whether it be Lybushkin or Lajoie. Reilly should have to play a more conservative game playing with an unfamiliar face, and focus more on preventing chances against the high powered Rangers offence.
Morgan Reilly Under 2.5 Shots On Goal (-145) DraftKings
Reilly has gone under his 2.5 shots on goal line in 68% of home games this season and in seven of his last 10 on home ice. Reilly has gone under this line in four of the Maple Leafs last seven games against the Rangers. Although the Rangers have been allowing a lot of shots, they are allowing the third least shots per game to defensemen on the year.
